As in stuff that you don't particularly care for, but need to complete a given system library. Some people only buy stuff they know they will regularly play. Not me. I buy anything I do not already have for any of my systems. Don't know that I will ever complete any of these mini collections, but I am aiming for that anyway.

I generally buy games because I want to play them. The only consoles where I have purchased pretty much every release (including filler games) are the 7800 and the Lynx. Of course, part of the reason that happened with those two consoles is that I have had those since they were released, making it easier to get the complete collection. The other one I'm fairly close to have a complete collection is the Jaguar. By the way, when I mean complete collection, I also refer to the homebrews. Smile

I used to buy every game that crossed my path. But then it just spun out of control.

I quit playing the games I had because the choice was to much to decide everytime I wanted to play something.

My dream is a complete N64 collection.

I have so many games from all the systems I have that I think I could be playing one game per day for several years! Smile

So how did you solve the problem? Sell off part of your collection?

As for me, I have some self control. I pass on just about every duplicate I come across, unless there is rarity involved. My main purchases now are just to fill holes in the overall collection. Basically, if I come across a game and my memory tells me I do not already have it, I pick it up. Amazingly, I have close to 4,000 games and my memory is pretty good in those situations.

I'm pretty much like you, Sloan. I have a ton of games and I avoid getting duplicates. In fact, I probably have a handful at most (literally, 3 or 4 duplicates), some because I did not remember that I had the game and 1 or two just because they are rare games.

I made a little game room. When I took them out of the totes that the games and systems were stored in I realized how much had been bought.

That really helped slow down the wanting more. My collection is much smaller than what it would have been. Just over 2,000 games.

I started selling off the games I knew I would never play like Earthbound, Secret of Mana, Super Mario RPG, Popful Mail for the Sega CD , extra systems and mostly Snes games.

I have been trying to downsize more. But I prefer a face to face deal so that slows down the process.

Well, as I've started doing the inventory of all my games, I've discovered a couple of duplicate carts. I think I'll be having sale on Ebay when I'm done with the inventory. Smile

You'll have to let us know which games were duplicates? Just curious if it was a certain system or genre?

It's a mix right now. Here is a list.

Atari Jaguar: Checkered Flag, Blue Lightning (triplicates!), Beebris
Atari Lynx: Klax, Ms Pac-Man, Double Dragon, Xenophobe, Rampage, Pinball Jam, Scrapyard Dog, Shadow of the Beast, Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure, and Power Factor (there are carts my sister had that she gave me)
Atari 7800: One on One Basketball
Atari 2600: Space Shuttle, Mr. Do!, Chase It! (homebrew)
Sony PSP: Kingdom of Paradise

Sometimes I think the dupes I have collected could fill a small closet. I have not picked up many lately, but a few here and there at Goodwill's and Salvation Army's over the years. Maybe inventory for my game store venture?

That would work. At least you won't have a hard time parting with these games since they are duplicates.

Both are fun games!

Atari was smart when programming Ms. Pac-Man for the Lynx. They have all the original mazes but then they created a whole seprate version of the game that takes advantage of the wide screen on the Lynx to fill up the entire thing with brand new and unique mazes. They also added features to the gameplay. For example, a lightning bolt shows up which, if you "eat" gives you super speed. So, you get the original game and all its charm plus this modified version.

Rampage is also very well done and it even includes a new character, a huge rat! If you use the ComLynx cable, you can link up to four Lynx systems and have four people play simultaneously (the arcade only had 3). I've never been able to play it that way, though. I bet it would be tons of fun!

They both sound great! I have Ms. PacMan for the Game Gear but it's sealed. Not sure how it plays.

Atari had some good ideas with the Jaguar and Lynx multi play but I have never tried them either.

I'm not sure about the Game Gear's Ms. Pac-Man but I think I saw a comparison on a retro magazine saying that the Lynx was much better. I have to check for that and get back to you.

Here is a link to a review of Ms. Pac-Man for the Lynx from the RVG forum I also visit: Ms. Pac-Man Atari Lynx

I have a truly complete collection for the Lynx (with tons of homebrews also) and for the 7800. I have a "fake" complete collection for the 5200 and for the Vectrex (fake because it is through a multicart). Wink

Well, to be honest, I'm running out of space! Multicarts are practical and let you have the fun without the clutter! Smile By the way, you are welcome to join RVG as well. I actually belong to several forums for video games as you get a different mix of people and interests.

I might be going through my mid life crisis and sell off everything for a sports car. So my thought is if I keep talking and playing games it may not happen. Neutral

ROFL! You are bad! So far I'm pretty set up for it. I just have a couple more things to do which I can do later. The problem is that it has been raining a lot already (independent of Isaac) and we'll get a lot of flooding. Thankfully I made sure my house was in a no-flood zone. Smile

By the way, my first set of Intellivision game reviews is almost ready and should soon be up on RVG. cheers

From what I've seen, you can think of the Vectrex as an investment as the prices for everything Vectrex are going up!
