Or just collect?

I primarily play but there are some games that I get because I know they are collectibles as well (though I get them to play them). Smile

Interesting. I am just a slight bit older than you, and I mainly collect at present. I keep telling myself I am building toward retirement, where I will have ample time to play all the games I want. Good excuse, right?

I do have the grandkids over for some play once in a while, but those play sessions are too few and far between.

That's cool. I forgot to say that I also purchase homebrew games to support the folks to who develop them. There is some impressive stuff that is getting made.

I am not sure where I stand. Sold an Nes and N64 over the weekend and picked up more games for both. One I really wanted to play. Eliminator Boat Duel for the Nes.

Trying to downsize and it just does not work.

If you need to downsize your physical collection but there are still games you want to play, you might consider using emulation to play those games. I realize it isn't the real console experience but it is a practical alternative.

I have thought of it but then I would never make the Intellivision 125 club or the N64 club.

That's ok. If that's your goal, then go for it. Smile

Thanks!

Always thought I would have a complete Intellivision set one day and maybe years ago I would have finished my collection but being older now I really want to enjoy what gaming time I have left.

My problem is I like to collect and play for different systems. Every gaming generation I miss out on some good games. Having multiple systems has allowed me to experience those games that slipped through the cracks all those years ago.

I have decided to be practical about this to some degree with more recently acquired consoles. If a system has a multicart or some kind of flashcart that lets me play all of the original games for that console, I'll stick with that. It's a "complete" game collection for having fun playing. Now, when it comes to homebrew games, then I'll buy no matter the console, so long as I own it. As you know, I just recently got an Intellivision and it had several games included. Now I just got a CC3 and I found about 240 ROMS with all the original games and even some homebrews. I'm done looking for original cartridges for the Inty but I will continue to get new homebrews as they are released. It's the same thing I did with the Vectrex. Smile

I'm doing that right now as well. There were gaming consoles I could not get when I was a kid and I'm finding myself getting these consoles now. Over the past 2 years I've gotten an Atari 5200 (yep, also with a multicart), a Vectrex, and an Intellivision. I will admit, though, that the driver for the Intellivision was D2K. I did not want to miss playing that game!

Smart idea on the multicart. My cousin had a 5200 but he never let any one play on it not even his kids. So it was years later when I picked one up. My first thought was ok the controllers are different maybe that is why he never let anybody play back then.

The 5200 controllers are legendary and not in a positive way! I went ahead and got the gold-modified controllers from one of the online vendors as those are better quality. I also got the Wicko stick for the 5200 for games that really need self-centering controls.

I bought my first 5200 at a garage sale with two Wico sticks, two stock controllers, a working track ball, Wico Y cable, and 5 games. $10 for everything.

Trouble is that the potentiometers in both Wico sticks went bad before I got them, and they are not readily available for cheap. I stupidly whittled on the internals of one of the non-working Wico controllers in a misguided attempt to retrofit it with stock Atari pots. Not a good decision on my part. In any case, I still have two non-functional Wico controllers, and three perfectly working stock Atari brand controllers (only by buying some replacement parts from Best and repairing them myself).

That was a great deal! Best is where I got the gold controllers from. Smile

Which is the point of getting video games, right?
